About

Dr. Janice Gilbert has served in the United Methodist Church for 19 years.  Dr. Gilbert is lead pastor at St. James UMC -Beamount TX  She has been assigned there for going on three years.  The church is an black historical marker since the unification in 1968 previously the Episcopal Church in Downtown Beamont TX.  Whereas previously the St. James Church was experiencing detachment with its current  changing  mission fields, is now experiencing new relevant missional  strategies within its new ministry context.

Dr. Gilbert is a voice and presence with other community leaders effecting change within the community dealing with the poor, schools, and community at large.

Dr. Gilbert and St. James Church are in partnership with Phelp Price Elementary School in Beaumont ISD.  Providing school supplies and backpack, support groups for young boys.

Dr. Gilbert, known for her creative forward thinking leadership style is transforming and revitalizing  the church  through strategic initiatives, intentional outreach and “The Church Has Left the Building Campaign “, a missional strategy to encourage, equip and empower the church to reach out doing ministry outside of the church.  She is also working as a personal Spiritual Life Coach to help mentor women.

Dr. Gilbert continues to serve as a Mentor for Clergy support and development for the Texas Annual Conference.  Dr. Gilbert has and continues to serve as a delegation to General Conference.  Dr. Gilber is a member of the Chamber of Commerce of Beaumont TX, a member of NAACP-Beaumont TX, and President of BCW(Black Clergy Women) Texas Annual Conference.
